It happened at Ottawa Technical High School on Donald Street, according to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. Officers were called to the scene west of St. Laurent at about 9:45 a.m., police said. Nothing had been recovered by early Monday afternoon, police later said. The force said it was reducing its presence in the neighborhood but that a criminal investigation was ongoing. There was no talk of charges.

A lockout was ordered

A lockdown was initiated as a precaution after reports that a student “may have been in possession of a weapon,” school board spokeswoman Darcy Knoll said in an emailed statement. “Students and staff were safely secured in their classrooms and the lockdown was lifted after about an hour. No students or staff were injured,” the statement said. In a series of tweets, police had earlier said there was no danger to the public and that the school was in a “safe and secure operation”. Police asked people to avoid the area, but did not initially say what the call was about. Police entered a school and arrested four people. The school remains in safe and secure operation. There is no danger to the public at this time. Everyone is asked to avoid the area. Updates to come. https://t.co/EPS3qNxlHg —@OttawaPolice
