If you’re a Mac user, there’s a good chance that you have an iCloud account. If not, it’s time to get one. An iCloud account is a great way to keep your data safe and easy to access. You can use it to store your photos, music, and books in one place. Plus, if you lose your phone or if it gets stolen, you can easily access all of your data in iCloud. To set up an iCloud account on your Mac, follow these steps:
- Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences. This will open the System Preferences window on your Mac.
- In the System Preferences window, click on the Accounts tab. This will open the Accounts preferences window on your Mac.
- In the Accounts preferences window, click on the Add Account button. This will add an iCloud account to your Mac.
- Click on the Use My Apple ID button to confirm that you want to add this new account to your Mac.
If you have primary accounts set up with more than one iCloud account, only the primary account will sync certain information in OS X Yosemite, while other items may not. If you want to change primary accounts for this Mac, sign in to icloud.com on a computer that’s already set up with multiple primary accounts and follow these steps:
If you use Safari, do a hard refresh by holding down Command+Shift+R as you click the Reload button. This will reload the web page and may fix some issues with open tabs.
When you’re finished using Safari, close it by choosing File > Close from the menu bar or by clicking the red dot in the upper left corner. (You can also move your mouse cursor over this dot and choose Quit Safari.)
Open Launchpad by clicking on its icon on your Dock or pressing -Escape.
In Launchpad, look for an app with the same name as your primary iCloud account. (If you do not see this app, check that you are looking in All Applications.)
Drag the app to the right of your Dock until it is one space away from the Dock’s edge. This will put it “on top” of all other applications so that you can more easily quit other applications before quitting your primary iCloud account application.
If there is a red dot on the icon of your primary iCloud account, click on it and choose Quit from its menu list or press -Q. If there is not a red dot on the icon, skip to step 7 below.
Quit your primary iCloud account application by clicking on its icon on your Dock or pressing -Escape.
