If you’re upgrading from an iPhone 4 or 4s, the process is pretty straightforward. If you’re coming from an older model like the iPhone 5 or 5c, things are a little more complicated. Here’s how to set up your new iPhone 5c:
- Plug in your iPhone 5c to your computer using the included USB cable.
- Open iTunes and click on the “iPhone” icon in the top left corner of the window.
- Click on “Summary” in the main column of information and make sure that “Device is Up-to-Date” is checked. If it isn’t, click on “Update Now.”
- Click on “Restore.” This will take you through a series of prompts asking which device you want to restore your phone to (iTunes or iCloud), as well as which apps and data you want to keep. Make sure everything is selected before clicking on “Restore.”
- Once restoration is complete, open up Settings and tap on “General.” Underneath “About,” make sure that your phone’s model number matches what’s shown under “Serial Number.” If it doesn’t, go back into iTunes and update it before continuing with these steps.
- Next, open up Safari and type in www.apple .com/iphone/setup into the address bar (without the quotes). Tap on the link that appears underneath it and follow its instructions to finish setting up your new iPhone 5c! ..
