If you’re like most people, you probably have an IMVU account. An IMVU account is a service that allows you to easily manage your online accounts and keep track of your interactions with other users. Unfortunately, on July 1st, 2019, the company that providesIMVU announced that it will be shutting down. This is a big loss for users who rely on the service to keep track of their online activities and connect with friends and family. IMVU was founded in 2013 and has been providing its users with an easy way to manage their accounts since then. The company said that it will continue to offer support for its customers until September 30th, 2019, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll be able to keep up with the demands of online activity.
Here are some ways you could erase all your information from IMVU:
If you made any purchases with your MasterCard/bank card/Paypal or other method of payment on IMVU and do not want IMVU to keep those transactions on record anymore, simply call the bank or credit card company and simply inform them of this fact and request that IMVU be removed as a merchant on record. Most IMVU users who have done this also request that IMVU not be given the ability to charge them in the future.
IMVU users may also choose to delete their accounts through IMVU’s support service, but IMVU forbids IMVU users from disclosing any information about their account deletion process or what happens afterwards. [This is called “opting out”.]
IMVU’s Privacy Policy states that IMVU will hide your account even if you opt out of all newsletters sent by IMVU, and after hiding it they continue to send newsletters through other means such as IP address tracking or cookies (which can only be deleted online). IMVU’s Privacy Policy also states the IMVU may disclose their IMVU user information if legally compelled by a government agency or court order, and IMVU sued an Internet firm for selling IMVU usernames [which is illegal] in 2010. See http://www.imvu.com/en/legal3/privacy .
IMVU claims to quote from a U.S. Federal law which actually does not exist, but that has been quoted online to scare IMVU users away from deleting. This law was instituted because of adult sexual predators who persuade minors to create sex-related accounts and convince them to meet up offline; this practice happens on some social media websites.
