An 84-year-old man spent 12 hours in an ambulance outside Carbonear General ER, waiting to see a doctor after a medical emergency. Helen Conway Ottenheimer asked Health Minister Tom Osborne in the House of Assembly after Osborne suggested that people who do not have access to health care could visit the ER. “Obviously these waits are not acceptable,” says Osborne, which is why the province is working to recruit doctors and health professionals, make changes to the Medical Act and introduce virtual care to help reduce wait times.
