York District Police say they were called to a parking lot on the northwest corner of Highway 7 and Pine Valley Drive at 2:07 p.m. for reports of a man being shot in a vehicle.
They arrived to find a man who had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
He was rushed to the hospital trauma center for treatment.
Investigators say they are looking for a suspicious vehicle that escaped the scene.
“I’ve heard that people do not want to get involved, but if you have any information that will help us solve or reverse what happened here, we need you to come forward and help us solve this problem,” Staff Sgt. David Mitchell told reporters at the scene. “It sounds like a broken record right now. “But if you saw something, if you have any information, you may have this little piece of the puzzle that you may think is insignificant, but it can lead us in the right direction as to what has happened here.”
Mitchell told reporters that the investigation into the shooting was “still in its infancy”.
He said that medical examiners are at the scene and are looking for evidence.
He said investigators were also in contact with the property management company in charge of the square and hoped that several visible surveillance cameras might have recorded what had happened.
Meanwhile, uniformed officers are searching the area in hopes of locating witnesses.
“We are working to process this scene as quickly as we can, but when it comes to forensic evidence, we have only one shot and only one shot,” Mitchell said, noting that access to the square would likely be limited for the rest of the day.
