TORONTO — Apple Inc. says it’s raising the cost of Apple Music and Apple TV Plus services in Canada. The tech giant confirmed that prices for both services are increasing by $1 to $3 per month, depending on services and package size. The base price of Apple Music for a single listener account will increase from $1 to $10.99 per month, while access to the Apple TV Plus video streaming platform will increase from $3 to $8.99 per month. This is the first time Apple has raised prices for streaming services in Canada. The company says the Apple Music price increase is tied to higher licensing costs for the music. The decision comes as many of the major streaming platforms look for ways to boost revenue amid inflation and the rising cost of film and television production. Similar price increases are occurring in other markets where Apple has a presence, including the United States. Meanwhile, the price of Apple One, a subscription package that adds Apple Arcade and iCloud storage, as well as news and fitness options, will increase in Canada by $3 or more. Analysis of price increases: Apple Music – Individual: $10.99 (previously $9.99) – Family: $16.99 (previously $14.99) – Annual: $109 (previously $99) Apple TV Plus – Monthly: $8.99 (previously $5.99) – Yearly: $89 (previously $59.99) Apple One – Individual: $18.95 (previously $15.95) – Family: $24.95 (previously $20.95) – Premiere: $37.95 (previously $33.95) This report by The Canadian Press was first published on October 24, 2022.
