The price of regular gasoline averaged about $ 4,986 on Friday, up about 22 cents from the previous week and almost $ 2 a gallon higher than at this time last year, according to the AAA. The steady rise in prices comes as the US economic recovery from the pandemic has eased limited demand for travel, by road and air, and with many returning to work.
