A Canadian man was taken into custody after he allegedly shot and killed a police officer responding to a call in the Mexican tourist resort of Tulum, prosecutors said Tuesday. On Monday, police in Tulum responded to a report of a man shooting at a car, according to the Quintana Roo state prosecutor’s office. When they arrived at the community of Francisco Hu May, a man fired at them, hitting an officer who later died. The shooter, identified only as “Patrick C” according to Mexican law enforcement policy, entered his home and set it on fire before running back out. The man was shot in the leg by police and was treated at Playa del Carmen Hospital. The State Security Service of Quintana Roo also confirmed the death of the policeman.
