The number of bird flu cases in Quebec has steadily increased each week in October, with another outbreak identified on October 27, and this time the source is a farm in Saint-Paul-d’Abbotsford, just a few kilometers from previous hot zone. Two poultry farms in Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby were quarantined on 18 October. These outbreaks are still considered active, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The latest outbreak brings the total number of infected facilities in the province to 11. Last week, Éleveurs de volaille du Québec, the provincial organization of poultry farmers, told The Record that 11,500 turkeys were euthanized at one of the infected chicken farms, in meanwhile 4,600 and 30,000 laying hens were euthanized at the other site in the same area.
