Former commando Collin Reeves, 35, stabbed to death Stephen and Jennifer Chapple, 33, at their home in Norton Fitzwarren, near Taunton, Somerset, as their two children slept upstairs around 9 p.m. November 21 last year. Reeves jumped over a fence to gain access to the Dragon Rise property after a long dispute over designated parking. He called 999 minutes after attacking the couple with a ritual dagger given to him when he left the army. On Friday, a recording of the emergency call was heard to jurors at Bristol Crown Court. The pilot confused Reeves with the victim, asking if he had been injured, jurors heard. Reeves said: “I went with a knife, I stabbed them both.” When asked if the couple was awake when they left, he replied: “No, I think they were drifting. He was lying on the floor, she was on the couch.” When police arrived at the scene, the couple’s children were still sleeping upstairs. Opening the case on Wednesday, Adam Feest QC said Ms. Chapple had not had a chance to get up from the couch to defend herself during the attack. She suffered six stab wounds to her upper chest and shoulder, causing fatal injuries to a large blood vessel and her heart. Mr Chapple, 36, also received six stab wounds along with minor injuries. The court heard that he stabbed them in a one-minute attack using the ritual dagger. Reeves then shouted “you’re dying to die,” the court heard. Reeves, a former British Army commando engineer, has admitted to killing the couple and pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Reeves served in the military between 2002 and 2017, including in Afghanistan. He claimed he had been struggling with his mental health since he returned and said he was suffering from a “mental disorder” at the time of the attack. The trial continues.
