The San Jose Galley, which historians believe carried a treasure trove worth billions of dollars, sank in 1708 near the port of Cartagena in the Caribbean of Colombia. Its possible recovery has been the subject of litigation for decades. A remote-controlled vehicle reached a depth of 900 meters, Duke and naval officials said in a video statement, allowing new videos of the wreckage. The vehicle also discovered two other nearby wrecks – a colonial boat and a schooner believed to date to about the same time as Colombia’s war for independence from Spain some 200 years ago.
