The province’s cost of living checks will start coming out in the next week or so. The Treasury Department says it expects checks to begin being distributed by mid-November. The provincial government announced that $500 checks will be distributed to every Newfoundlander and Labrador who filed an income tax return last year and makes less than $100,000. It is estimated that approximately 392,000 residents will be entitled to the one-off benefit. Those earning between $100,000 and $125,000 will receive a partial payment of between $250 and $500. The benefit was made possible this year due to an unexpected revenue surplus.
