No one was injured during the incident at the Harmondsworth detention center near Heathrow Airport, but power was still out just before 9am on Saturday, the department said. The Home Office initially claimed that “a group of prisoners left their rooms” and entered a yard “armed with various weapons”, but later retracted this claim. HM Police, Fire and Prisons services are at the scene. A Home Office spokesman added: “There has been a power outage at Harmondsworth immigration removal center and work is currently underway to resolve this issue. “We know there is a disturbance at the center and the relevant authorities have been alerted and are on the scene. “The welfare and safety of staff and people detained at Harmondsworth is our top priority.”
