This new drone launch is scheduled for November 2nd at 9am. EDT / 13:00 GMT (which works out to 12 a.m. AEDT on November 3) and the big clue that it could be a new Mavic is that the camera lens has already been teased by DJI themselves. How to watch the DJI drone launch event You can watch the official announcement on the DJI YouTube channel (opens in a new tab) pending, and you can subscribe through the official DJI website (opens in a new tab) to be notified when the announcement is made. But if all of that is too much trouble, we’ve included the YouTube link below so you can watch the announcement live with us LIVE! DJI Mavic 3 Classic: What we can expect to see The DJI Mavic 3 Classic has been rumored for quite some time, and the specifications of this new drone have been in the air for a while. According to leaks from WinFuture (opens in new tab), @DealsDrone (opens in new tab) and @JasperEllen (opens in new tab), the Mavic 3 Classic is likely to skip the telephoto camera featured on its current flagship DJI for Consumers, the DJI Mavic 3 (opens in new tab). This means that, as DJI’s invitation suggests, it will only offer a 20MP Four Thirds CMOS sensor for video and photos – which is still worthy of 4K video and capable of excellent aerial photography, while the leaked drone images also suggest that the Hasselblad partnership is still present in this smaller spec drone. Hello #Mavic3classic. Removing the Telelens made it 4 grams lighter. And thanks to my friend @rquandt for discovering these photos. pic.twitter.com/dMaTiB6yg2 October 27, 2022 See more This type of strategy has worked well for DJI in the past, first offering the DJI Mini 2 (opens in new tab) and then offering the DJI Mini SE (opens in new tab) as a cheaper alternative, removing RAW photo capture. and only offers 2.7K video capture versus the 4K video recording of the more expensive DJI Mini 2. To bring the price down, DJI will have to make some cuts somewhere, and without knowing any official information, it’s hard to guess what might pay off, however, if we were to guess we’d say the massive 1TB SSD found in the Mavic 3, with DJI opting for a 256GB / 500GB option on the Mavic 3 Classic, this would be a nice price cut while not completely giving up storage freedom to take multiple flights a day. Obviously the next issue would be recording codecs, if DJI were to reduce the internal memory, we can also see them limiting recording codecs like Pro Res from Apple to make the DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine the options for really serious local filmmakers. Other options could be to drop the optical zoom to 10x instead of the Mavic 3’s larger 28x, then we could see a decent price drop to around $1,500 / £1,300 – which would fit right in between DJI’s current range of DJI Air 2S and Mavic 3 All this combined with the lack of a telephoto lens makes for a compelling argument for the new DJI Mavic Classic – but bear in mind that no official information has been announced by DJI and the above is just our own personal speculation.
