Photo: Glacier Media A 49-year-old woman is lucky to have survived non-life-threatening injuries after her SUV crashed into an elevator on Highway 1 in Burnaby on Thursday. Emergency crews were called to the Grandview ramp off the ramp at about 8:15 p.m. for reports of a vehicle collision, according to Assistant Fire Chief Darcy Robinson. On the scene, they found a broken SUV in the middle of the grass in the middle of the Trans Canada highway. “The vehicle had gone through the nose of the guardrail first onto the freeway down the middle of the grass and then back into its tires,” Robinson said. Firefighters did not have to free the female driver, she said, but she was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm. “The girl is super lucky,” Robinson said. Traffic eastward on the highway was supported for some time as crews closed all east lanes to clear the collision. Burnaby RCMP is investigating the cause of the crash. They do not believe that drugs or alcohol were to blame, but they did not rule out the possibility that speed or rain may have contributed to the incident.
