Dozens of complaints have been lodged with Finland’s chancellor of justice after the prime minister was seen dancing and partying with friends and celebrities, driving global headlines. But the chancellor, an independent office responsible for overseeing the legality of government activities and to which any citizen can file complaints, concluded that Marin had not neglected her duties as prime minister. ‘I’m human’: Sanna Marin defends privacy in defiant speech – video “There was no reason to suspect the prime minister of illegal conduct in the performance of her duties or neglect of her official duties,” concluded Tuomas Pöysti, chancellor of justice. At the time, Marin said she had had “a night out with friends” and that the videos were “filmed in private spaces”. “I’m human. I too sometimes long for joy and light and fun amidst these dark clouds,” he said. Complaints to the chancellor alleged that Marin was unable to work “due to alcohol consumption”, alleged that her behavior was unbecoming of a prime minister and that she was undermining Finland’s “reputation and security”. In August, Marin took a drug test, which came back negative, to clear up any suspicions raised by some that the comments in the video were about drugs – something that was hotly debated on social media and denied by the prime minister.
