This is the first batch of vaccines available to the general public. Previous vaccination efforts were reserved for people considered to be at high risk. Staying up-to-date on vaccines is the best way to avoid illness and unnecessary hospital trips this season, the province said in a news release Tuesday. “Getting the flu shot as early as you can helps keep each other and our most vulnerable loved ones healthy,” said Health Minister Sylvia Jones. The province is also encouraging booster shots for COVID-19, saying it’s safe to get the COVID-19 shot and the flu shot at the same time. The COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone over six months of age and the bivalent booster to people aged 12 and over. The province says flu shots are available at doctors’ and nurses’ offices, some public health units and participating pharmacies. Toronto Public Health has 4,000 flu vaccine slots available by appointment at all six of their vaccination facilities. Appointments can be booked using it TPH appointment booking system. Additional appointments will be added each week in each month. Here are some tips from TPH on how to stay away from the flu this season in addition to the vaccine:
Clean your hands often. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unclean hands. Wear a mask especially in indoor public places or crowded places. Socialize outdoors when possible. Keep physical distance. Cover your cough or sneeze. Stay home if you are sick.
