Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for Metro Vancouver, East Vancouver Island, the Southern Gulf Islands, Victoria and the Sunshine Coast, along with special weather statements for the Lower Mainland and Howe Sound. In Metro Vancouver, strong northwest winds of 70 km/h with gusts up to 90 km/h are forecast to develop by evening, with the strongest winds expected near water. In the Victoria region, westerly winds of 40 km/h with gusts of up to 60 km/h were forecast, climbing to 70 km/h and gusting to 90 km/h in areas near the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Environment Canada said.
