It happened just before 9pm in the 1500 block of North 13th Street. Police say a group of men opened fire on a passing vehicle. The 8-year-old girl, who was just down the block, was grazed in the head by one of the bullets. He was taken to hospital by the police. Her condition is currently unknown. “At this point, it’s just a repeated broken record that we’re sitting here talking about gun violence in the city. This could have been anybody walking down the street, it could have been somebody walking their dog,” said the deputy commissioner John Stanford. A man inside the vehicle was also shot in the leg. There was no word on his condition. According to Deputy Commissioner Stanford, the suspects were waiting for the victim in another vehicle to pass before approximately 47 shots were fired. The view from Chopper 6 shows the bullet-riddled vehicle targeted by the suspects. He fell blocks away from the shooting as the driver was taking the victim to the hospital. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw released this statement about the shooting: “On a beautiful autumn afternoon in our city, a group of cowards with guns waited on a residential street to open fire on a passing car. Dozens of shots rang out. An adult man in the vehicle was hit in the leg – and the same little 8-year-old girl who stood across the street. By the grace of God they will recover physically. To those responsible: stop endangering the lives of our residents – our children! (Philadelphia police) will find you, and bring you to justice.” Police are still looking for the suspects.
