Generally speaking, big budget sequels either score slightly lower or slightly higher than their predecessors. The fact that Ragnarok managed to achieve the same incredibly high score as the 2018 installment defies educated guesses. We guess it shows how consistent Santa Monica Studio’s production is. With that in mind, it’s worth noting that God of War as a franchise is ridiculously successful in terms of critical acclaim. God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok aren’t the only games in the series with a 94 rating — the original God of War on PS2 also has a 94, albeit with fewer reviews. So, according to critics at least, Ragnarok stands next to the previous game as an equal. And in broader terms, it’s actually the highest-rated PS5 version so far.
