Sony Now that the review scores have settled in, we can see where God of War Ragnarok ranks in the larger pantheon of game releases this console generation. And not surprisingly, its score of 94, tied with the first game, puts it near the top. Currently, God of War Ragnarok is the second highest scoring game of the PS5 and Xbox Series generation. It would be lower if you included the Switch, but I’d technically consider it a last-gen system that Nintendo still… sells tons of. But between PS5 and Xbox Series X, here’s how the current list breaks down. And I think you can probably guess what number one is:
- Elden Ring – 96 (PS5 and Xbox Series X)
- God of War Ragnarok – 94 (PS5)
- Hades – 93 (PS5 and Xbox Series X).
- Persona 5 Royal – 92 (PS5 and Xbox Series X)
- Forza Horizon 5 – 92 (Xbox Series X)
- The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe – 91 (PS5 and Xbox Series X)
- Rogue Legacy 2 – 90 (Xbox Series X)
- Microsoft Flight Simulator – 90 (Xbox Series X)
- Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 – 90 (PS5 and Xbox Series X)
- It Takes Two – 89 (PS5 and Xbox Series X) 11 Deathloop – 89 (PS5 and Xbox Series X)
- The Last of Us Part I Remaster – 88 (PS5)
- Horizon Forbidden West – 88 (PS5)
- Immortality – 88 (Xbox Series X) For games with copies on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, I averaged the scores, or if they were one point off, I gave it to the highest. Forza Horizon 5 Lady As some have noted, the Xbox has had several highly rated Metacritic releases, which is why it was Metacritic’s Publisher of the Year in 2021. Forza continues to be an incredibly strong series for the Xbox, in fact the strongest, though you’ll see if that changes if Starfield comes along and drives them all crazy. But this winter, for sure, there is nothing on the Xbox side that can match God of War Ragnarok. Both consoles, of course, have access to the Elden Ring, even if Sony generally has a closer relationship with FromSoft. This time it wasn’t a Bloodborne situation. God of War scores are highly impressive. With more and more critical shops submitting reviews these days, it’s getting harder and harder to get into the mid and high 90s as only a few extremes can sink you. That’s why we’ll probably never see another Ocarina of Time 99 score again. But yeah, I’m sure Sony is thrilled with Ragnarok’s reception. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
