Dearborn police said they were engaged by a shooter at the Hampton Inn hotel at Michigan Avenue and near Military Street. Officers were called to the scene shortly after 1pm and evacuated the hotel on arrival. Dearborn police said the shooter is not in custody but “is contained” and said there was at least one victim who was taken to a local hospital. It appears that the perpetrator is on the third floor of the hotel. Police said they are currently in negotiations with the suspect. Police said they believe the shooter is armed with a long gun. Michigan State Police called it an “active shooting scene” and added, “this situation is active and dangerous. Stay away from the scene.” “There are still shots being fired from the suspect. Soldiers and officers are working to clear the entire area around the hotel,” the MSP said. Dearborn police also urged people to avoid the area until further notice.
