Kent Police have confirmed that the suspect, who was found dead at a nearby petrol station, is a 66-year-old man from High Wycombe. They said they were working with officers from Thames Valley Police to execute a warrant at a property on Monday. The man’s name has not been released. However, Sir Roger Gale, MP for the nearby North Thanet constituency, told the House of Commons on Monday night that the suspect suffered from “very serious mental health difficulties”. According to police, two or three incendiary devices were thrown at an immigration processing center in Dover and started a fire. A Reuters photographer said a man threw petrol bombs with fireworks before killing himself. The attacker was described as a white man wearing a striped shirt who drove into the center in a white Seat 4×4 vehicle, the news agency reported. Kent Police said they were called at 11.22am. on Sunday, October 30, at a Home Office immigration office at The Viaduct in Dover. Officers determined that two to three incendiary devices had been thrown out and into the premises by a single suspect who arrived at the scene in a car. Two people reported minor injuries from inside the property. The suspect was identified and located very quickly at a nearby gas station and was confirmed dead. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit attended the site to ensure there were no further threats. Another device was found and confirmed to be safe inside the suspect’s vehicle. The site remained open, however around 700 suspected migrants were moved to Manston to ensure safety during the initial phase of the police investigation. Inquiries into the incident are continuing by Kent detectives.
