Southern California-based Huy Fong Inc. told customers in an email earlier this year that it would suspend sales of its famous spicy sauce this summer due to a lack of chili peppers. The company stated in the email of April 19 that all orders placed after this date will be fulfilled after Labor Day. “Unfortunately, this is out of our control and without this key ingredient we will not be able to produce any of our products,” the company said. The company supplies its peppers from various farms in California, New Mexico and Mexico and said the weather conditions affect the quality of the peppers and deepen the lack of chili peppers. He did not immediately respond to an email asking for comment on Thursday. High temperatures and historical drought throughout the western United States have severely affected California agriculture. The U.S. Drought Observatory said the entire state had been in a “severe drought” since last week, with the Central Valley facing “extreme drought” conditions.
