A gunman opened fire while Mr. Khan was addressing supporters at a rally in Wazirabad in Punjab province, officials said, wounding him and some of his supporters. Sky’s Cordelia Lynch, who was at the scene, said a Sky News producer was standing by Mr Khan shortly after the wounded politician got out of his container truck after the shooting. Mr Khan was rushed from the scene and his supporters said he had survived the assassination attempt. Image: Imran Khan at Gakhar on Wednesday. He was six days into a march from Lahore to Islamabad in his bid to bring early elections to the country, pushing for radical change, when the shootings occurred. Large crowds had gathered to hear him speak – and Leeds said she had just interviewed him on stage about threats of violence during which he described the march as a “peaceful” protest – when there was a “sudden commotion”. Nobody could understand what was going on,” Lynch said. “Then Imran Khan appeared. He had been shot, I understand, in the left leg. “Actually, our producer here, Mohammed, was able to see that. He was very close to Imran Khan as he appeared. “They took him… a doctor, who was nearby, treated three patients.” He added: “This was the worst-case scenario – what worried so many people was that this peaceful protest had the potential to turn violent.” Mr Khan was traveling in a large convoy of trucks and cars heading to the capital as part of his campaign.
