Bieber said it was caused by a virus that infected nerves in his ear and face. According to the Mayo Clinic, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome occurs when an outbreak of shingles affects the facial nerve near one of your ears. “Apart from the painful herpes zoster rash, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome can cause facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear,” the Mayo Clinic said in a statement.
