The Kelowna Art Gallery has a new wishing well. David and Jorden Doody, who teach visual art at UBCO, are the two artists who worked to create the wishing well, using subtle psychedelic patterns and a burst of color like some of their work around the city. They are the main artists behind the western painted turtle mural that can be seen on Pandosy Street, as well as the large blue heron and salmon murals that can be found downtown. “We were so excited when Jorden and David unveiled their vision for our backyard space,” said Kelowna Art Gallery curator Christine May. “We’ve found that one of the key pieces to making an installation successful in this space is to offer visitors the opportunity to interact with it. Wishing Well does that in a big way.” The Wishing Well welcomes visitors to sit, walk and play in the sculpture. “We wanted to break the barrier between the viewer and the artwork,” Jorden said. “Our goal was to create a kind of this magical object that becomes extraordinary when it is captured by the imagination of visitors. Jorden says she’s looking forward to some impromptu performances, dances, photo shoots and with Wishing Well.
