Donald Trump heads to Ohio today to campaign for Republican Sen. JD Vance, who is fighting hard to keep the state’s open Senate seat in the Republican column. Mr Trump’s appearance comes after a rowdy rally in Florida yesterday. He delivered an incoherent speech in which he mocked Nancy Pelosi – leading the crowd to erupt into chants of “lock her up!” a few days after the speaker’s husband was released from the hospital after a violent attack. At the same rally, Mr Trump appeared to rein in his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSandis after a mocking new nickname for the rising Republican star angered the governor’s inner circle. He had earlier dismissed Mr. DeSantis, widely seen as a possible 2024 presidential contender, as “Ron DeSanctimonious” at a rally in Pennsylvania, reportedly angering the governor’s staff. However, in Florida on Sunday, he told the crowd that they must re-elect Mr. DeSantis tomorrow. With the former president increasingly hinting that he plans to run again, one of the most prominent potential Republican candidates, Tom Cotton, has reportedly told aides and associates he won’t run after months of laying the groundwork for a campaign.

What did Trump say about Ron DeSandis?
“We’re winning big, big, big in the Republican Party for the nomination like nobody’s seen before. Here, Trump at 71, Ron DeSantimonius at 10 percent,” Trump told a crowd in Latrobe, showing poll numbers on a big screen as he coined a new nickname for a man many see as his likely successor. But Mr. Trump was quick to tone down his taunt the following Sunday, perhaps in response to the outrage of many prominent conservative news outlets, when he told another rally in Florida (where he lives): “You’re going to re-elect the wonderful Marco Rubio to the Senate. of the United States and you will re-elect Ron DeSantis as your governor.”

The trial of leading members of the Oath Keepers on conspiracy riot charges continues, with founder-leader Stewart Rhodes on the stand once again. Along with claiming that the US president “has the absolute power to declassify anything”, which is inaccurate, it also details the militia group’s presence in and around Washington on January 6, when its members took part in the attack in the USA. Cotton is leaving the 2024 pre-game
Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas has become the first top Republican to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, according to reports. The far-right senator and GOP rising star was considered a front-runner for the race if Mr. Trump decided not to run. Mr Cotton appeared to be following the playbook of presidential candidates by releasing a book about American power, but he will now become the first high-profile candidate to drop out of the 2024 bid. Trump Goes Dark on Death Penalty for Drug Trafficking
Donald Trump’s typically noncommittal speech at his rally yesterday included a particularly grim proposal: the default death penalty for drug trafficking, a policy apparently designed to mimic a policy in China that circumvents American due process standards in criminal trials: Trump has called for the death penalty for drug dealers. He appears to have taken a particular liking to the approach favored by former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who oversaw a campaign of extrajudicial violence in the name of a “war on drugs” that Human Rights Watch says has claimed more than 12,000 lives. GOP mega-donor says it’s time to leave Trump behind
In an interview with Politico published yesterday, one of the Republican Party’s biggest donors said what most of the party establishment dare not say: that it is time for the Trump era to end. According to hedge fund CEO and philanthropist Ken Griffin, there are “plenty of reasons” to move on from Mr Trump, whom he did not support financially apart from a donation for his 2017 inauguration. ICYMI: Matt Gaetz Calls Trump ‘Daddy’
Among the most exuberant speakers at Donald Trump’s Florida rally this weekend was Rep. Matt Gaetz, a staunch Trump aide who has been embroiled in a sex-trafficking investigation for the past year. And as he addressed the crowd, Mr. Gaetz’s dedication to the former president was complete: Andrew Naughtie7 November 2022 13:00 1667822400
Trump: US “in decline”
Former President Donald Trump is predicting doom for America if his fellow Republicans don’t pull off a massive electoral wave on Tuesday. Democrats, led by President Joe Biden and two other former presidents, warn that abortion rights, Social Security and even democracy itself are at stake. Three of the six living presidents gave terrific closing messages Saturday in battleground Pennsylvania entering the final weekend of the 2022 midterm elections, but their words echoed across the country as millions of Americans cast their ballots to decide the balance of power in Washington and in key state capitals. Polls across America will close on Tuesday, but more than 39 million people have already voted. Andrew Naughtie November 7, 2022 12:00 p.m 1667820600
