Day 1 concludes with Schwartzel at Lead Charl Schwartzel closed his first round with a birdie to take the lead with one shot. Schwartzel is a former Masters Champion and one of 17 current or former PGA Tour members competing in this event. The LIV events have 54 holes, so there are two rounds left. Hennie Du Plessis shot 4 under and is only in second place, one back. DAY 1 COMPLETE TABLE OF SCORE Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson teamed up and shot one under 69 to follow Schwartzel with four shots. “Apart from a few loose runs, I felt like I was hitting my curlers very well. The golf course is tough and the conditions are really tough,” Johnson told the show. Here is a look at the leaders of the Day 1 final:
What is Phachara Khongwatmai?
The 48-man LIV golf course has some players who are familiar to most golf enthusiasts, but many who probably are not. One of the latter would be the leader in the 4 below the three-hole par at the Centurion Club, Phachara Khongwatmai, Thailand. The 23-year-old is at No. 133 in the world rankings and is permanent in the Asian Round. In 2013, at the age of 14, he became the youngest winner of a professional tournament when he won the Sing Hua Hin Open at the All Thailand Golf Tour. Three years later he played in the British Open at the age of 17, losing the cut. The LIV Golf Invitational Series is approved by the Asian Tour. LIV Golf Investments, the company that started last October with the idea of supporting golf around the world, has committed $ 300 million to the Asian Tour for a series of 10 events a year designed to help develop the tour. The Public Investment Fund, an autonomous investment fund managed by the Government of Saudi Arabia, is the main shareholder of LIV Golf Investments. Three players from Thailand are on the field as well as three from Japan.
How the LIV show looks and sounds like
As with any new league, there is plenty of curiosity about where and how LIV Golf will be broadcast. For the opener outside London, LIV Golf is streamed on its own website, YouTube and Facebook. And it looks like … a golf tournament. The presentation includes a scoreboard that is constantly updated on the left side of the screen, with the players and their team logos. At the top left is the number of holes left, as when starting with a shotgun all players finish at about the same time. American golf fans protesting for shows with too many commercial breaks, keep in mind – there are no sponsorship obligations this week with the new series, so there are no ads. During the first round show there were virtually no features or other parts to be removed from the golf course. In terms of commentary, the main stand has the English Premier League football longtime television station Arlo White, along with American Jerry Foltz, most recently from the Golf Channel, and Dom Boulet from Hong Kong, the voice. of the Asian Tour.
Dustin Double Bogeys the 7th Hole
Not all smiles at the Centurion Club. In the 7th hole par-4, Dustin Johnson threw his car out of bounds to the right and threw his T-shirt in disgust. Scroll to continue
He made a double kick in the hole to fall from 1 under to 1 over in the round, a draw for 15th place in the race. Johnson plays with Phil Mickelson – LIV Golf picked up his two biggest names and started in the No. 1 jersey – and Mickelson is also No. 1 in his first professional golf course since the Saudi International in early February.
How the group format works
One of the most important points of sale of LIV Golf is the shape of the group of four people. With 12 holes left in the round – how the LIV keeps track of time given the launch of the shotgun – the Crushers GC team led by 4 points. Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai was in the 4 under, leading the Crushers as well as the entire event. The team score is calculated with the two best scores of a team for the first two rounds and the three best scores in the third and final round. The top three teams win shares of a $ 5 million prize pool, with $ 3 million for the first, $ 1.5 million for the second, and $ 500,000 for the third all-four. So, theoretically, a player could have a bad organization but three good teammates and have a good payday.
So what are they wearing?
If you just tune in, you will notice that most of the players will not look any different than in other tournaments. Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia, for example, are in their usual yarn with the Adidas logo. Garcia in an Adidas hat and Johnson in a TaylorMade hat logo. The LIV golf teams of the players are represented through the cards, which have team names and logos on their vests. As for Phil Mickelson, who lost sponsors after his comments in February about the “hateful greed” of the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed championship, he wears a black hat with his own Jumping-Phil logo and a Black vest with Augusta. National Golf Club logo.
The game starts at the LIV Golf Opener
Dustin Johnson’s opening shot was shown live on the broadcast and parted ways. Phil Mickelson has teamed up with the DJ, and also hit the road with his first shot at No. 1. And so a new golf tournament begins. Phil Mickelson’s inaugural T-shirt was shot in the new LIV Golf Championship.
The show is live
In the first moments of the online broadcast, Greg Norman enters the booth and says: “I’m excited to bring free golf agencies. The start of the shotgun is just minutes away. Arlo White, Greg Norman and Jerry Falls on the first show.
A walk to the beginning of the shotgun
As anyone who has ever played at a charity golf tournament or big event at a local club knows, getting started with a shotgun is a controlled mess. It usually involves an army of golf carts being fired at the same time from the club. LIV Golf went a step further, seizing a fleet of black cabins in London to transport players across the Centurion Club. LIV Golf also released a promotional video on Thursday, narrated by Dennis Quaid.
