Firefighters were on the scene for several hours but left after the fire was extinguished. The road remained closed until shortly before 16:00 as police were conducting investigations. A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At around 6.47am. On Friday, June 10, police were called to report a collision on the east road of M56 between junction 7 and junction 6. “Police officers rushed to the spot and found that the incident involved a silver Audi A8, which collided with the central detention and was well lit. Firefighters extinguished the fire but unfortunately the driver of the vehicle died as a result of the incident. “The man’s family has been informed and is being supported by police. Investigations into the incident are ongoing and police are appealing to anyone who may have shots from the dashboard or seen the collision to contact them.” Anyone who has any information or video from the dashboard camera in connection with the incident is kindly requested to report it to the Cheshire Police by calling IML 1289338 or calling 101.
