Hundreds of people were allegedly put in danger by a driver and Omaha police ended up shooting that person. It all started shortly after 7pm, a spooky Halloween night for people in the Minne Lusa neighborhood. Several officers were in the area for an annual Halloween event when a call came in about a reckless driver. Minutes later, police say a driver drove through those barricades and into a crowd of hundreds of people and children. That’s when a police officer handing out candy fired his gun, hitting the man inside the car. “It’s extremely scary. When this type of event occurs. Obviously, with hundreds of people, lots of kids, and not waiting for cars to go through barricades,” Omaha Police Lt. Neal Bonacci said. This is the moment a driver in North Omaha drove through a gated neighborhood filled with hundreds of people at a Halloween event. The driver slows down and then hits the accelerator. Moments later he was shot dead by police officers working the event. @WOWT6News (via: Rafael Almanza) pic.twitter.com/URPxgHJPOu — Marlo Lundak WOWT (@marlolundaktv) November 1, 2022 Despite driving through the busy road, police say at this time it does not appear that anyone was hit by the driver. Police also say the driver of the car was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Many neighbors saw the driver and heard the gunshots. Many homeowners allowed strangers into their homes to try to help protect people from all the chaos. Police tell us a man drove through those barricades and into a crowd of hundreds enjoying Halloween festivities. OPD shot the driver to stop him – he was taken to hospital in serious condition. This is the 2nd officer involved shooting in 2 days. @WOWT6News pic.twitter.com/ZpFXEZLMyu — Marlo Lundak WOWT (@marlolundaktv) November 1, 2022 Copyright 2022 WOWT. All rights reserved.
