“I know enough to smell a rat,” the former Fox News and NBC star said during her podcast Monday. During an interview with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) on his SiriusXM podcast Monday, Kelly shot down any notion that the attack on Paul Pelosi, 82, was politically motivated, pointing out that the suspect, David DePape , 42, is a “madman.” “I feel at least the SFPD has egg on its face because even under the most generous story about Paul Pelosi and the San Francisco police, they were at home when this guy attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer,” said Kelly. . “I’m not sure how that happened,” the former Fox News star continued. “How do you have police officers on the scene and an 82 year old being attacked with a hammer in front of you when you have a gun as a police officer?” Kelly added: “It’s one of many questions here. As you point out, there are security cameras throughout the house. You can see them from outside where they were lit.” “If not, why not? She is the president of the Parliament.” Megyn Kelly is skeptical of the official narrative given by San Francisco investigators investigating the attack on Paul Pelosi. SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images Kelly noted that “far less well-known public figures than Nancy Pelosi have taken extra security measures in and around San Francisco, given how high the crime rate is there, it would be crazy not to have their cameras on.” He agreed with Cotton’s call for police to release body camera footage from when officers arrived at the home. “Let’s see,” Kelly said. “Let’s see everything. I do not know what happened. I know enough to smell a rat. There’s something going on here that we’re not being told. I just don’t know what it is.” DePape has been charged by federal prosecutors with attempted kidnapping and assault with intent to retaliate against a federal official or injure a family member. “I know enough to smell a rat,” Megyn Kelly said on the SiriusXM podcast about the investigation into the attack. SiriusXM California authorities also announced criminal charges against DePape including attempted murder, residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, false imprisonment of an elder and making threats against a public servant and their family. Federal investigators allege DePape wanted to kidnap the House speaker when he broke into the couple’s San Francisco home before dawn Friday. When DePape went upstairs looking for Nancy Pelosi, he was told by her husband that she was not present, according to federal charging documents. “Pelosi responded that she was not present. Pelosi asked how they could resolve the situation and what Depp wanted to do,” according to the document. “DePape stated he wanted to tie Pelosi to sleep as he was tired from carrying a backpack to the Pelosi residence.” DePape then began “pulling ties out of his pocket” so he could restrain Pelosi, according to federal investigators. “Pelosi moved to another part of the house, but Depp stopped him and together they returned to the bedroom,” the Justice Department document said. The two men talked and Pelosi went to the bathroom, where he was able to secretly call the police. The burglary took place at the Pelosis home in California.ABC7 At that point, DePape realized what was happening. In his police interview, he said he “felt that Pelosi’s actions forced him to respond. “DePape recalled thinking there was no way the police would forget the phone call,” the document said. In another breakdown, the alleged assailant later told police multiple times “he didn’t leave after Pelosi called 911 because, like the American founding fathers with the British, he was fighting against tyranny without the option of surrender.” An FBI report shows law enforcement officials were inside Pelosi’s home at the time the alleged assailant struck Paul Pelosi. Anadolu Agency via Getty Images Depp and Pelosi had descended the stairs by the time the police arrived and knocked on the door, which the 82-year-old answered quickly. “Pelosi grabbed Depp’s gavel, which was in Depp’s hand. At this point in the interview, DePape repeated it [he] he didn’t plan to surrender and that he would go ‘through’ Pelosi.” Megyn Kelly pointed out that cameras are placed around the Pelosi residence, making a burglary even more confusing.ABC7 He then began hitting Pelosi with the hammer, cracking his skull in the process, police said. He later told cops Pelosi was “taking the punishment for” his wife. Prosecution documents revealed that police officers witnessed the attack. Kelly called the suspect, 42-year-old David DePape, “crazy.” “Pelosi and DePape were both holding a gavel with one hand, and DePape was holding Pelosi’s forearm with his other hand. Pelosi greeted the officers,” the documents state. “The police asked them what was going on. DePape replied that everything was fine. The officers then asked Pelosi and DePape to drop the gavel.” “Depp grabbed the hammer from Pelosi’s hand and swung it, hitting Pelosi in the head. Officers immediately moved in and were able to restrain Depp… Pelosi appeared to be unconscious on the ground.” Kelly is calling on San Francisco prosecutors to release police body camera footage from the night of the incident. Getty Images Charging documents said DePape said he was targeting Nancy Pelosi because she was the “leader of the pack” of lies told by the Democratic Party and wanted to break her knees to show her actions had consequences. Paul Pelosi remains at San Francisco Zuckerberg General Hospital and Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery on his skull and was visited by family members. Doctors said they expect him to make a full recovery. DePape was also taken to the hospital after the attack, but in police custody. Additional reporting by Ben Kesslen
