Blizzard Entertainment There has been a lot of speculation about the identity of the next hero of Overwatch 2. We have known for a while that he will be a tank and a male figure who already exists in the Overwatch cult. The new hero was finally revealed during the 2022 Overwatch League Grand Finals, but it’s not Mauga, as many people expected. It is an omnic tank called Ramattra. In case you’re scratching your head to remember where you recognize him from, he’s the omnic you see Doomfist talking to at the end of the closing cutscene for the Storm Rising Archives mission. He is also the leader of the Null Sector, the extremist group that has carried out several attacks on the Overwatch world in an attempt to gain rights to omnics. Ramattra also has some history with Zenyatta. Blizzard spoke with some members of the media about the new hero, and I’ll get into some of those details — including his sick abilities — in another post. Team 4 revealed the Ramattra story and origin video during the Grand Finals, so let’s dig into them now. We’ll have to wait a little longer to see the gameplay and what Ramattra looks like in the game, so the origin story video and character art will have to do for now. Here’s what Blizzard revealed about Ramattra’s backstory: Ramattra’s story is complex and multifaceted, and his ultimate goal is to protect his people — but the cost of that goal has yet to be determined. Originally a war machine, Ramattra shed his ammunition for a shield to protect his people while promoting peace and tranquility. His ideals were not far from his fellow Shambli monk, Zenyatta. However, Ramattra’s story is one of hardship, trauma and a magnified view of the harsh reality of humanity. Harmony was replaced by discord, and Ramattra began to approach his beliefs from a more pragmatic angle – justifying any means necessary to defend his colleagues. As the leader of the Null Sector, Ramattra prides himself on incredible support from his people and is ready to impose his philosophies on our world. This is a very nice backstory. The addition of Ramattra to the lineup of playable heroes brings another faction into the fold beyond Overwatch and Talon. It will help further the Overwatch lore. Oh, and it can transform into an alternate form. I think there will be a lot of fans around this hero. One more thing: Ramon Tikaram (who voiced Godrick in Elden Ring, fact fans) is Ramattra’s English voice actor. The French voice actor is Loïc Houdré.
