Kevin Wood, described by his wife of 38 years as “her soul mate, best friend and hard worker”, was punched by 23-year-old Calum Crosby from Cumbridge Clouse, Newcastle, outside Printworks in Dantzic Street in Downtown Manchester last year.

Shortly after 8pm on Saturday, Nov. 20, Kevin visited the band in downtown Manchester to celebrate Debbie’s wife’s birthday, wanting to enter Printworks for a birthday party before encountering a mess outside the entrance. At the time, Kevin was trying to speak to security before being attacked. The court heard that Crosbie and his friends had been thrown out of the O’Neills bar by security staff for refusing to move from a table and quickly became violent towards staff who had formed a line opposite the Printworks entrance to prevent them from coming back. Other people involved, including Kevin Doherty and Alan Foster, both from Newcastle, were also involved in the disorder and were later located in Newcastle. The couple pleaded guilty to controversy and was sentenced today to four months. It was at this point that Crosbie, who tested positive for cocaine and was convicted of possession today, appears to have kicked and hit security personnel before accidentally hitting Kevin on the left side of his face, causing him to fall to the floor. Security personnel caught him as he fell and emergency services tried to bring him back to life, but unfortunately he was found dead on the spot shortly after 9 p.m. Kevin’s wife, Debbie, is still reliving the night’s events and urging people to think twice to punch and attack each other. He said: “Kevin was a hard worker, he gave us everything we ever wanted. He had a fantastic sense of humor and made you laugh. She was my soulmate, my best friend and my husband. “We will never get over it – our lives will never be the same. It’s absolutely crazy for a fist to do so much damage to a person and a family. “It was like yesterday, I wake up every day thinking I’m dreaming and waiting for Kevin to come. It was absolutely creepy for all of us as a family and no doubt for the Crosbie family.” He added: “To think that you can just go out for a night out and a meal on your birthday and something like that can happen and only one of you can go home. I would tell anyone who thinks of punching or attacking someone not to do so. You do not realize what you can do to someone and their family, as well as your own family. “When people go out and are full of drugs and alcohol, they think they are invisible and have no idea what to do. Now I have a daughter who does not have a dad and all the milestones in her life that she would have shared with her dad will be lost now. He will never be able to watch her in the hallway. It’s heartbreaking. “These attacks must stop.” Kevin, who had recently recovered from prostate cancer shortly before the incident, worked most of the day on the fateful night to fix a leak in his and Debbie’s home. After it was over late, he had proposed to change plans and go to the Middleton that night, before deciding to stay with their plans in Manchester. This is what Debbie is still struggling with today. He added: “To this day, I regret not staying at Middleton and wish I could stay there as he may still be here with us now. “She was a loving husband, best friend and soulmate. “He was not only the father of his daughter, but also the grandfather, grandfather, brother and uncle and we are all still devastated.” Crosby was sentenced today (June 10) to seven years in prison by the Manchester Crown Court following a thorough investigation by the GMP Major Incident Team (MIT), which scrutinized CCTV and took testimony from a large number of witnesses. Senior Investigative Officer Detective Inspector Mark Davis of MIT said: Kevin who still reconciles with what was happening that night every day “. “The security personnel just did their job and Kevin was a passerby who lost his life in the most devastating way that night. This is a reminder that a simple punch can result in someone being killed and I would urge everyone to really think twice. “You never know what is going to happen and Kevin is just one of many victims all these years who have sadly died as a result. “Crosby is now behind bars, away from his family, thinking about his actions and no doubt regretting them every day. “It left not only Kevin’s family devastated and at a loss, but undoubtedly his own.” Read below:
