“From June 16, Ontario Public Health (PHO) will proceed with the weekly report and publish the latest COVID-19 data every Thursday,” Health Ministry spokeswoman Alexandra Hilken said in a statement issued this afternoon. Friday.
As of January 2020, the province publishes spreadsheets for hospitalizations, intensive care admissions, and numbers of virus-related cases. Moving away from this daily ritual is part of a broader tendency to loosen the restrictions associated with COVID-19 in Ontario.
This update comes as the county prepares to end its mask mandate on Saturday – one of the last long-standing public health precautions still in the county.
Moving on, masks will no longer be required on public transport, in hospitals and in shelters.
The Ministry of Health says that PHO will continue to monitor trends and formulate their reports as required in the coming weeks and months. This data will still be available in the province’s Open Data Directory.
In addition to the frequency of their updates, the province is also reducing “duplicate reports”, such as data on COVID-19 cases in homes and long-term care schools. Other public health units and school boards will continue to provide this information, but it will not be included in the provincial database.
Health officials say the move follows similar decisions made by several other Canadian jurisdictions, such as British Columbia and Alberta, along with the Ontario Hospital Association.
Also, given the fact that Ontario terminated its vaccination proof program months ago, Verify Ontario will be officially removed from the App Store by June 24th.
