The county reported 825 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, but health officials have warned the number is underestimated due to testing restrictions and delays.
With 11,050 tests processed in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health says the province’s positive rate is about 7.1 percent.
In the greater Toronto area, officials reported 210 new cases in Toronto, 62 new cases in the Peel area, 55 new cases in the York area, 35 new cases in the Durham area and 20 new cases in the Halton area.
The county estimates that 892 more cases of the disease will be resolved by Saturday, bringing the number of patients recovering in Ontario to 1,290,406.
Today’s report brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases in Ontario to 1,312,185.
The county reported 51 cases of residents and 17 cases of staff in long-term care facilities across Ontario. Five of the eight deaths reported on Saturday involved residents in long-term care.
Officials say at least 62 long-term care homes are currently experiencing an outbreak.
