The PC opposition joins the chorus of calls for a full explanation of the RCMP’s actions on a West Coast home last week. Police raided Mount Moriah’s home overnight, apparently looking for a missing 17-year-old. But they ended up in the wrong house, waking up and interrogating an 11-year-old girl in her dark bedroom. The Mounties say they have the power to enter without a warrant in certain cases. But there have been contradictions in the history of the police since the incident. PC justice critic Helen Conway-Ottenheimer says an apology and a full explanation should be the first step. He is also concerned about the opposing response from the RCMP. He says he hopes that the “us against them” defense and “self-protection” mentality is not indicative of a broader culture within the police. Conway-Ottenheimer calls on the district justice minister to encourage the RCMP to “do the right thing”, apologizing and fully explaining his actions in the case. RCMP has called media availability for 3:30 p.m. to deal with the incident.
