Surrey Coun. Jack Hundial said the car appears to be the one that outgoing Mayor Doug McCallum drove throughout his tenure. Hundial posted a photo of the white Buick with damage above the passenger wheel well on Twitter on Sunday, a day after McCallum lost the council election to former Surrey councilor Brenda Locke.

Hundial said he was told about the wrecked car by city staff on Sunday, noting “it appears to be (McCallum’s) car as that’s what he’s been driving for the last four years.” Police confirmed on Monday that an investigation has been launched into how the car was hit. On Monday night the RCMP determined there was no criminal offense and that their investigation was complete.

Hundial tweeted that the mayor returning the city-sponsored car with damage was “one last ‘FU’ for the people of Surrey”. A city spokesman confirmed the damaged car is the one given to the mayor, but declined further comment: “Mayor Doug McCallum’s vehicle was returned to the city sometime this weekend. As the matter is under review, the city will not be commenting at this time.” McCallum lost his bid for re-election to a fifth term on Saturday night, with Locke receiving just under 1,000 more votes in a race where the transition from the RCMP to a new Surrey Police Service was a major issue. Locke and her Surrey Connect party have vowed to keep the Mounties in town. Locke and Hundial, who is a former Mountie, have been at odds with McCallum for most of his tenure over ending the city’s contract with the RCMP.
