The man who allegedly attacked Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home was carrying a bag containing several zip ties, among other things, according to two sources briefed on the incident .
In addition to the zippers, the suspect also had duct tape on him, according to a law enforcement source.
David DePape, 42, faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and other felonies in connection with the Friday morning attack, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said.
The hammer used to attack Paul Pelosi was brought by DePape, according to a law enforcement source and a senior congressional aide briefed on the attack.
Neither source knew of any other weapons found when DePape was taken into custody.
DePape went upstairs to the bedroom where Paul Pelosi was sleeping, according to San Francisco District Attorney Communications Director Randy Quezada. The two did not know each other before the attack, Quezada said.

The new details add further understanding to what happened during Friday’s attack, in which DePape also tried to engage Paul Pelosi, two sources told CNN on Friday.
Cries of “Where is Nancy” echoed the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.
Although police have yet to determine a motive, they believe DePape intended to enter the home.
Police said DePape entered the home through a back door, and it was unclear if he bypassed security measures.
Paul Pelosi was able to call 911 when the attack began, a law enforcement source and another source familiar with the matter previously said. He was able to keep the line open and the dispatcher could hear a conversation in the background, speaking quietly but making it clear that he needed help, according to the law enforcement source.
San Francisco police entered the home around 2:27 am. local time on Friday (5:27 a.m. ET) to find Pelosi fighting over a gavel with Depp, according to the city’s police chief. Officers saw Depp “violently attack” Pelosi with the hammer before tackling him to the ground and arresting him.

“The officers, while still outside the doorway, ordered both men to drop the hammer. Mr. DePape immediately pulled the hammer from Mr. Pelosi and violently attacked him with the hammer,” Scott said at a news conference Friday. “The officers immediately moved in, tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took the hammer from him and arrested the suspect, Mr. De Pape.”
DePape is expected to be charged with multiple felonies on Monday and arraigned on Tuesday, according to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.
Pelosi was taken to a hospital after the attack and underwent “successful surgery to repair a fractured skull and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” Drew Hamill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said in a statement early Friday night. . Paul Pelosi is expected to make a full recovery.
