Paul Pelosi has been released from a San Francisco hospital after recovering from surgery to repair a fractured skull and injuries to his arm and hand, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday.   

  “Paul is grateful to the 911 operator, emergency responders, trauma care team, ICU staff and the entire [Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital] medical staff for the outstanding and compassionate life-saving treatment he received following the violent attack on our home,” Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.   

  Paul Pelosi, husband of the speaker of the House, is at home resting just six days after the brutal attack last week, according to a source familiar with the matter, and the speaker confirmed in her statement.   

  “Paul remains under the care of doctors as he continues a long process of recovery and recovery,” said Nancy Pelosi.  “He is now at home surrounded by his family who are asking for privacy.”   

  San Francisco police entered the home around 2:27 am.  local time on Friday to find Pelosi fighting over a hammer with a man, who has since been identified as David DePap, according to the city’s police chief.  Officers saw Depp “violently attack” Pelosi with the hammer before tackling him to the ground and arresting him.   

  Pelosi was taken to a hospital after the attack and underwent “successful surgery to repair a fractured skull and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” Drew Hamill, a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi, said in a statement early Friday night. .  He is expected to make a full recovery.   

  DePape pleaded not guilty Tuesday to all state charges during his initial court appearance.   

  He also waived his right to a hearing within 10 days during his appeal in a San Francisco courtroom.  Judge Diane Northway set a hearing for Friday in San Francisco Superior Court to set a date for a preliminary hearing and bond setting.   

  DePape, 42, has been charged with a string of felonies, including assault, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, after breaking into the couple’s San Francisco home last week, the U.S. attorney’s office and the San Francisco district attorney’s office announced Monday .  He was charged with one count of “attempted kidnapping of a US official,” according to the US Attorney’s office for the Northern District of California.  That charge relates to Nancy Pelosi, who Depp told police he planned to “hold hostage,” according to an FBI affidavit also unsealed Monday.   

  The attempted kidnapping charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.  He has yet to file an appeal in federal court.   

  The Department of Homeland Security said late Wednesday that DePape was in the United States illegally and could face deportation.   

  “US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) filed an immigration detainer on Canadian national David Depp at the San Francisco County Jail on November 1 following his arrest on October 28,” the department said.
