Photo: Castanet Staff Police are investigating after a body was discovered in the Thompson River near Riverside Park over the weekend. According to police, investigators were called just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a possible body in the water, about 30 or 40 feet from shore. RCMP Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said Mounties used a drone to confirm the object was a body and then recovered it with the help of the Kamloops Fire Department. “Based on the initial investigation, the individual appears to have been in the water for some time,” Evelyn said in a news release, noting that the body is a man. “Police are working to confirm the identity and contact next of kin.” Evelyn said the BC Coroner’s Office is also investigating the death. He said investigators have not yet determined whether foul play is suspected. Anyone with information can call police at 250-828-3000.
