A woman in Calgary’s northwest neighborhood reported to police Thursday that she found a sewing needle inside a chocolate her child received while trick-or-treating in the area, according to a news release. The child did not eat the chocolate and was not injured. Police have not determined where the child got the chocolate as he collected candy from more than 100 homes, the release said. Police are continuing to investigate to determine whether the breach was intentional. Police are reminding parents and guardians to inspect their children’s candy before allowing them to eat it, check wrappers for tears or holes, and throw away any candy that looks suspicious. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously to Calgary Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
