A branch down at Gordon Drive and Cameron Ave. UPDATE: 11:10 a.m Crews have repaired the outage in the Lower Mission area of Kelowna, restoring power to 1,356 homes. But hundreds more homes along Westside Road are now without power as well. BC Hydro says 294 customers are without power along Westside Road to the Traders Cove area. The outage was first reported at 10:14 a.m. and crews are expected to arrive shortly before noon. There are also several minor scattered outages in West Kelowna, Merlot Way, Dominion Road and McMillan Road. Photo: BC Hydro ORIGINAL: 9:50am Heavy snow falling across Kelowna has caused branches to fall on power lines in the Gordon Drive area, leading to a major power outage in the area. As of Friday morning, FortisBC reports 1,356 homes are without power in the lower Mission area due to downed power lines. The outage extends south into the Bellevue Creek area along Gordon Drive and north around the Mission Sports Field area. The outage was first reported at 9:21 a.m Branches have also been reported on power lines along Gordon Drive near Guisachan Street, Bankhead Crescent, Girard Street in Rutland and other areas of the city. Several people have reported sparks where they have hit branches. Emergency crews are responding to downed lines and it appears Fortis crews are staying busy. Residents around the Okanagan woke up to heavy snow that fell Friday morning, with several inches of accumulation on area roads. High altitude highways are also in poor condition in the region.
