The Netflix drama, due to air next week, has TWO episodes based on the 1995 BBC bomb and its aftermath.

Charles’ father is shown shouting as he watches and then crying. It was thought that streaming giant Netflix had reduced the length of the recreation to tiny clips lasting just seconds. In fact, the producers took the most incendiary parts of Princess Diana’s hour-long interview in 1995 and condensed them into a segment lasting four minutes and 23 seconds. They include Diana referring to the “marriage crowding” she endured while Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. She also says she wants to be a “queen in people’s hearts,” but she doesn’t think she’ll ever be the queen herself. An investigation later found that interviewer Martin Bashir used forgery and deception to gain access to the princess. But in a move that will spark widespread outrage, the streaming giant has gone overboard with the language and created huge chat sections. Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and friend of Diana, who died in 1997, said: ‘William will be furious. He said his piece when he said it should never be played again. “This is his mother and in her memory they are doing this. “It must be very disappointing that he can’t say more because it will just give Netflix more publicity. “They should have listened to him. The interview has no credibility after the investigation. Everyone knows it has no legitimacy now. “Charles will think they can say whatever they want about him but leave Harry and William out of it. “He won’t say anything about how he comes across, but just don’t attack his sons like that.” The show’s tweaks and fabrications blame Diana’s plight at the feet of the then Prince of Wales and make the Princess, played by Elizabeth Debicki, sound more sympathetic. Charles, played by Dominic West, is seen shouting and cursing during the interview as the princess questions his fitness to be king. The scene ends with him breaking down in tears as Camila watches helplessly by his side. 6 Diana and Bashir’s secret conversation in The CrownCredit: TNI Press 6 Producers took the most incendiary parts of Princess Diana’s hour-long interview in 1995 and condensed them into a four-minute, 23-second segment The two episodes include scenes of Prince William as a young boy and include the moment he watches his mother’s interview on TV while he was a student at Eton. His teacher seems to be asking him if he is okay. Visibly upset, he says, “I’m fine,” then walks off the TV before the interview is over.

FOUR OF THE FIBS OF THE SHOW

HERE are four times Diana’s words were analyzed on the show: Postpartum Depression Discussion: The Crown: “It gave people a wonderful new label to pin on me: I was crazy, I should have been sent to a home.” Reality: “It gave everyone a wonderful new label — Diana is unstable and Diana is mentally unstable.” Discussing never being a queen: The Crown: “I don’t imagine myself becoming queen, no. I don’t think many people will ask for that, when I say people I mean the ones at the top, from my husband’s side.” Reality: “I don’t think many people will want me to be queen. Actually, when I say many people, I mean the establishment I married into.’ In the fight to the end: The Crown: “I didn’t just marry into a family, I married into a system. But I will fight “to the end”. Reality: “I will fight to the end as I believe I have a role to fulfill and I have two children to raise.” On post-breakup feelings: The Crown: “I speak not with bitterness or anger, but with sorrow.” Reality: “Deep, deep sadness.” It is well known that the young William, now Prince of Wales, was humiliated by revelations about his parents’ private lives being played out in public. A spokesman for William did not want to comment last night. But the Prince is understood to have made his feelings clear in a statement last April, accusing the program of fueling his mother’s paranoia and worsening his parents’ marriage. He had said: “It is my view that the fraudulent way in which the interview was conducted materially influenced what my mother said. The interview was a major contributor to the deterioration of my parents’ relationship and has since hurt countless others. “It is my firm view that this Panorama program has no legitimacy and should never be broadcast again. It essentially established a false narrative which, for more than a quarter of a century, has been peddled by the BBC and others.” Netflix said: “The fifth season of The Crown will dramatize the events surrounding the Panorama interview, given the pivotal role it played in the time period covered by the series. “It will reflect what we now know about how Diana was interviewed and treated. The interview is not reproduced in full.” 6 Princess Diana is played by Elizabeth Debicki in The CrownCredit: RadioTimes/Immediate Media Company London Ltd

THE ISSUE OF THE CROWN

SCENE 1 Bashir: Your Highness, do you honestly believe that members of the royal house came to get you? Diana: When I divorced the Prince of Wales I was seen as the number one problem, the first of my kind. SCENE 2 Bashir: When your first son was born, that must have been a very happy time? Diana: When William was born I was sick with postnatal depression. I just wanted to stay in bed all day. I was in a very dark place. Bashir: Did you reach out for help? Diana: I guess if you’re the first person in a family to ever feel down, then it’s very hard to get the support you need, so you suffer alone. SCENE 3 Bashir: What impact did the illness have on your marriage? Diana: Well, it gave people a great new label to pin on me. . . that I was crazy, I should be sent to a home. But what better way to break down a personality than to isolate it. Bashir: Your husband is said to have rekindled his relationship with Mrs. Camilla Parker Bowles around 1986, did that lead to the breakdown of your marriage? Diana: Well, there were three of us at this wedding, so it was a little crowded (smiles). Was I devastated? Yes. Did I feel like a failure? Mmm (nods). Bashir: On reflection, are you saying that the royal family has essentially abandoned you? Why do you think this happens? Diana: Because I don’t do things the way they do. Because I want to connect with people emotionally and comfort them in distress. Bashir: And isn’t that something the royal family provides? Diana: You have to remember I didn’t just marry into a family I married into a system. But I won’t go quietly. I will fight until the end. Bashir: What impact do you think the breakdown of your marriage had on Prince William? Diana: Well, he’s a serious brooding boy, so it’s hard to know the impact yet, we’ll have to wait a few years to see. SCENE 4 Schoolmaster talking to William at Eton: Are you all right? William: Yeah, I’m fine (gets up and walks away from the TV) SCENE 5 Bashir: Do you think Prince Charles will become king? Diana: Who knows what fate will bring, it’s a very demanding and suffocating role and Charles has always been conflicted about it. . . SCENE 6 Prince Charles is seen standing as he watches TV and says: ‘Oh my God.’ SCENE 7 Diana: . . Knowing him so well, I would have thought the top job would put a lot of strain on him and I’m not sure how he would handle it. SCENE 8 Charles (yelling): What the hell is he doing?! SCENE 9 Bashir: Some may see this as revenge for the Prince of Wales. . . Diana: But I’m not speaking with bitterness or anger, but with sadness, because our marriage has failed. SCENE 10 Charles seems to be holding his head crying… SCENE 11 Bashir: Do you think you’ll ever be queen? Diana: I would like to be a queen in the hearts of the people, in the hearts of the people. But I don’t imagine myself ever becoming queen of this country, no. I don’t think many people will ask for this, when I say people I mean the ones at the top, on my husband’s side, because they’ve decided I’m an issue, period. An obligation. But someone has to go out on the streets and give people the love they need. Bashir: Your Highness, thank you.
