Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick in just six minutes as Liverpool came from behind to beat Rangers at Ibrox as the Scottish side crashed out of the Champions League in the group stage. A double from Roberto Firmino turned the game around to ease the pressure on Liverpool after Scott Arfield got Rangers off to the perfect start and got Ibrox rocking when he fired past Alisson. Firmino then turned provider to set up Darwin Nunez, who slotted in Liverpool’s third. It went from bad to worse for Rangers as Salah came off the bench to score the fastest ever Champions League hat-trick, while Harvey Elliott added a seventh to boost Liverpool’s confidence ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester City. Mohamed Salah scores fastest Champions League hat-trick as Liverpool crush Rangers
Perhaps the key to getting the best out of Mohamed Salah is to turn him down. The Egyptian, who was subsequently omitted, warmed up at Manchester City with the fastest treble in Champions League history. In six minutes and 12 seconds of magical chaos, Salah recalled his brilliance. Rangers may count themselves unlucky to have faced him at his relentless, unbridled best, but a game in which Liverpool slumped ended idle, Salah coming off the bench to seal a late first away win of the season in spectacular style . Perhaps it added to the strangeness of a team that has now gone 9-0 and 7-1 this season while otherwise faltering. They went from struggling to outstanding in a six-goal second half as Rangers equalized their heaviest European defeat. Salah’s was an impressive display but, as so often in Klopp’s reign, Liverpool really had Roberto Firmino to thank. In a season when others have regressed, he has renewed himself. The Brazilian’s goal sent Liverpool from behind to the top and took him to eight goals in his last nine games. He set up the third with a delightful backheel for Darwin Nunez to score his second goal in as many appearances.
