Rishi Sunak tore up his manifesto pledges from the Tory leadership contest in the summer, including a 10-point plan to tackle immigration. The prime minister is in talks with ministers to determine which of his promises are still “deliverable” and “potential” – and every commitment is on the table, his spokesman said. It also said both pensions and benefits promises could change in chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s autumn statement in two weeks’ time. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister admitted that there are “not enough” asylum applications being processed by the government. Asked about the numbers being processed amid overcrowding at the Manston migrant center in Kent, Mr Sunak told MPs the simple answer was “not enough”. He said the migration crisis was a “serious and escalating problem” but insisted the government was in control of the situation and supported Home Secretary Suella Braverman’s handling of the issue. Polling guru Professor Sir John Curtice said Ms Braverman’s re-appointment put the prime minister’s general election hopes in jeopardy. Mr Sunak also reversed his decision to skip Cop27, saying renewables are at the heart of energy security.

Prime Minister embarrassed over climate talks, Labor says

Shadow Climate Secretary Ed Miliband said the Prime Minister was embarrassed to have gone to the Cop27 climate talks because of the “deluge of criticism there was, Boris Johnson went to the Police, the police chairman himself Alok Sharma said he was wrong not to went.” “He’s not going to provide leadership, he’s coming out of embarrassment, it’s not a good position for Britain. “There should be no doubt that our Prime Minister will go to the Police – this is the most important environmental event that takes place every year, we must not leave the world stage and that is what Rishi Sunak was planning to do until I had to go,” said Mr Miliband. Mr Sunak decided to attend the Cop27 summit after making “good progress” with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt at this month’s autumn statement, Downing Street said. The official spokesman said: “He has always recognized the importance of this summit and indeed of tackling climate change more generally. We wanted to make sure we were making good progress on the government’s domestic agenda and in particular the autumn statement. “Following discussions with the Chancellor this week, he has agreed to attend. The prime minister feels there is enough room to make that trip.” The spokesman said Mr Sunak hoped to make progress on a pledge to end deforestation by 2030 and agree new partnerships on clean and renewable energy. Matt Hancock shows contempt for voters, Labor says

Labor has accused Matt Hancock of treating his constituents with contempt by flying into the jungle for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

A casually dressed Mr Hancock has arrived in Brisbane as he prepares to enter the jungle. A Labor spokesman said: “Clearly the responsibility of MPs is to represent their constituents, whether in their constituency or in Parliament, and that is not what Matt Hancock is doing. “It’s not something we would support in terms of him doing. I think it shows contempt for his constituents to go to Australia to make money like that. “I think it also raises questions about the rules around ex-ministers looking for work as well.” In an article for the Sun, the former health secretary claimed it was “a great opportunity to speak directly to people who are not always interested in politics”. He said reality TV is an “honest and unfiltered” way to communicate with voters. “It is our job as politicians to go where the people are – not to sit in ivory towers at Westminster,” Hancock wrote. “There are many ways to do the MP’s job. Whether I’m in camp for a day or three weeks, there are very few places where people will be able to see a politician as he really is.” Jane Dalton November 2, 2022 1:48 p.m 1667396315

Prime Minister reviews campaign pledges

Rishi Sunak is reviewing the pledges he made during his Tory leadership campaign to assess whether they are still “deliverable”, Downing Street says.

The Prime Minister’s press secretary said the financial situation had changed since the summer campaign, when Mr Sunak lost to Ms Truss. “We’re looking at all of the campaign commitments and looking at whether it’s the right time to push them forward,” he said. “We need to take some time to make sure what is deliverable and what is possible, as well as working with stakeholders and with the relevant foreign ministers. “Obviously, these are commitments that were made a few months ago now and the context is somewhat different, obviously, financially. We have to look again.” Jane Dalton November 2, 2022 1:38 p.m 1667395909

Sunak: I will go to climate talks to boost economic growth

Rishi Sunak suggested that he would go to the next climate talks on economic growth and energy security, but did not mention environmental destruction or biodiversity. He also did not commit to fulfilling Britain’s Cop26 promises when challenged at PMQs. Challenged by former Tory minister Vicky Ford to confirm that the Government will deliver on the promises made in Glasgow at Cop 26, Mr Sunak said: “I agree with her that there is no long-term prosperity without action on climate change and there is no energy security without investing in renewable energy sources. “That’s why I’ll be attending Cop27 next week, to deliver Glasgow’s legacy of building a safe, clean and sustainable future.” Jane Dalton November 2, 2022 1:21 p.m
