According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, the child, named Ryker Gunn, was traveling on the 407 freeway westbound in a vehicle with his custodial workers. The boy reportedly got out of the vehicle around 2:40 p.m. when the driver pulled over to the side of the road, Schmidt said.
Riker, described as a white male, four-foot-seven, 130 pounds with short wavy light brown hair and wearing black pants, a black T-shirt, red jacket and black and white running shoes, was last seen walking away along the north side of freeway between Mississauga and Heritage streets.
“We were looking last night and we’re still out there right now … it was pretty cold overnight so we need to find out where he is and make sure he’s safe,” Schmidt told CP24 Friday morning.
“We do have our air services, our helicopter, in the air right now overhead and they’re looking for signs of life here. We also have members of the emergency response team, dog units also doing a grid search of the area.”
Schmidt urged anyone who lives or works in that area, which is mostly made up of commercial and industrial buildings, to keep a close eye on Ryker.
“At the time he left, he could really be anywhere. He could be hiding on the property, under vehicles in a commercial building, under a commercial trailer or anything that we don’t know about and so we’re asking anyone in particular in that area to check their properties up and down everywhere,” he said.
