Amritsar/Chandigarh, November 4 Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead in Punjab’s Amritsar on Friday, police said. The incident took place outside the Gopal Mandir on Majitha Road — one of the city’s busiest spots — where Suri and some other party leaders were holding a protest, they said. According to the police, more than five shots were fired at Suri after which he fell down and lost consciousness. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to the gunshot wounds, they said. The accused, identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Sultanwind area of ​​Amritsar city, was arrested and the weapon used in the crime was seized, police said. The alleged accused is being interrogated to reveal the motive behind the murder, they said. Suri was on the hit list of several gangsters for a long time and was provided security by the government with around eight Punjab policemen attached to him, they said. Reacting to the incident, Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma said that the law and order situation has completely broken down in the state. Congress state president Amarinder Singh Raja Waring said law and order in the state is going from bad to worse.
