It happened shortly after 9pm
South Simcoe police say the Ontario Special Investigations Unit invoked their mandate as a result of the “serious incident.”
However, police did not provide any other details in a brief press release sent out late Tuesday night.
“All media inquiries should be directed to the SIU,” the statement said.
Reports are that there is currently a significant police presence in the area of 25th Sideroad and 9th Line, although police have not confirmed the exact location of the shooting.
Barrie police also tell CP24 they are assisting South Simcoe police with the incident.
Meanwhile, in a message posted on Twitter, recently retired South Simcoe Police Chief Andrew Fletcher urged members of the public to “pray for everyone involved”.
